"Peace? Off!" is the tenth episode of Season 1 of Robin Hood.
Plot[]
A deranged man tries to burn down the church at Locksley. The villagers try to drown him, but Robin arrives to stop them. He suspects that the man is a crusader, and takes him with him. The outlaws struggle to communicate with him properly, and Robin tells Much to look after the man.
A strange carriage is found by the outlaws, and inside it is a scary mask full of needles. John is especially spooked by it, but Robin doesn’t believe it has anything to do with witchcraft.
Much names the strange man Harold and tries to bond with him by allowing him to help with cooking. The others return with the scary mask, and when Harold sees Djaq hold it, he attacks her. John knocks Harold out and the outlaws build a wooden cage to hold him in.
Gisborne gives Marian a horse in hopes of making peace with her, because she is still upset by Lambert’s death. She accepts the gift, and later Robin makes snide comments about it.
The Sheriff is hosting a Saracen prince, Malik, at the castle. Malik is anxious to get to business, but the Sheriff insists that they cannot start without Prince John. Eventually Malik threatens to go to London himself, and demands to recover his carriage from the forest. The Sheriff lets Gisborne take him to the forest to keep him believing that he is free.
Harold wakes up, calmer now, and Much tells him what happened. The two discuss the things they went through in the war. Much wants to let Harold go, but he declines, thinking it is safer for him to be locked up. Djaq makes him a drink to help him sleep.
While Malik is inspecting his wagon, Robin grabs him and takes him to the camp. Djaq recognises him as Saladin’s nephew. Upon seeing the mask, Malik is horrified by its terrible condition. He explains that the mask is a medical instrument meant as a peace offering. He has come to Nottingham to negotiate peace, but after speaking with Marian, Robin realises that Malik is a hostage being held in the castle for ransom.
Harold wakes up and Much tries to offer him another drink, but he refuses. He shows Much his tattoos and explains that he was captured and tortured to brainwash him into a killing machine.
Malik returns to the castle. He is more upset at the Sheriff than before, and the Sheriff has him thrown in the dungeon.
The outlaws see a group of women in the forest. At first, they think they are there to pay the ransom, but they soon realise that the women are Saladin’s assassins who intend to kill Malik to prevent peace. The assassin group, Al-Suj’an, was the one that tortured Harold.
The assassins arrive at the castle and demand to see the prince before handing over the key to the chest with the ransom money. Malik recognises the assassins and is dragged to the Great Hall. The Sheriff wants to get the key, and the assassins open the chest to reveal a mechanism, which fills the room with smoke. The Sheriff escapes the room but is about to be killed by Saladin’s man, but Robin manages to save him.
The outlaws go to rescue Malik, but are soon engaged in battle with the assassins. Harold shows up and singlehandedly kills all of the assassins. The Sheriff tells the outlaws to take Malik, wanting to be rid of him already.
Malik demonstrates the mask on Harold, helping him calm down. Harold leaves with him to Jerusalem to continue his treatment.
